Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: B2B Marktplatze verkorpern wie kaum ein anderes Konzept das Phanomen der New Economy. Getragen von einer Welle allgemeiner Euphorie entstehen auf dem Nahrboden boomender Kapitalmarkte in sehr kurzer Zeit eine kaum zu uberblickende Vielfalt unterschiedlicher Geschaftsmodelle. Zehntausende von Marktplatzen werden im Rahmen eines grossen Experimentes gegrundet und in immer neuen Auspragungen und Kombinationen zusammengesetzt. Angesichts der Dynamik der Entwicklung wird die Theorie von der Praxis eingeholt und oft uberholt, der Zeithorizont von Strategien verkurzt sich von Jahren auf wenige Monate. Gerade jedoch als betriebswirtschaftliche Grundsatze ihre Gultigkeit zu verlieren scheinen, setzt ein Konsolidierungsprozess ein, den nur diejenigen Unternehmen uberleben, die auch nach traditionellen Regeln weiter bestehen konnten. Der Zeitpunkt der Entstehung dieser Arbeit markiert genau den Wendepunkt, an dem aus rasantem Wachstum die Konsolidierung einer gesamten Branche wird. Der Aufbau dieser Arbeit gliedert sich in zwei Teile. Im ersten, induktiven Teil werden, nach einer Erlauterung der Entstehung von B2B Marktplatzen als Cybermediare und der Abgrenzung von anderen B2B Konzepten, Differenzierungsmerkmale von Marktplatzen dargestellt und analysiert. Aufgrund der dynamischen Entwicklung scheint es nicht sinnvoll, einzelne Archetypen von Marktplatzen herauszugreifen und zu beschreiben. Wie in einem Versuchslabor entstehen standig neue Verbindungen, die sich als stabil erweisen oder bald wieder zerfallen. Statt einer Beschreibung fertiger Geschaftsmodelle identifiziert diese Arbeit die zugrunde liegenden Komponenten, aus denen sich die Marktplatze zusammensetzen. Diese reichen von marktbezogenen Kriterien wie der Branchenausrichtung bis zu den verwendeten Erlosmodellen und Softwarearchitekturen.
