Beschreibungen der einzelnen Tempel Agyptens gibt es heute in vielfaltiger und detaillierter Form. Doch diese Arbeit wird sich mit den Grundstrukturen der Tempel beschaftigen. Mit den typischen Merkmalen, die alle miteinander verbinden. Dabei soll das bereits im Referat Vorgetragene vertieft, an einzelnen Beispielen erlautert und mit Abbildungen veranschaulicht werden. Unter einem Tempel verstehen wir Menschen des 21. Jahrhunderts ein sakrales Bauwerk. Das taten auch die Agypter, doch fur sie war es mehr als das. Sie sahen es als Abbild der Welt, des Kosmos und als Wohnung, fur die von ihnen verehrten Gotter. Dabei hatte der Tempel zwei Funktionen: Die der Gotterwohnung (?wt-nr) und die des Wirtschaftsbetriebes (pr). Diese Doppelfunktion wird auch noch in ihrer Bedeutung abgestuft, da die Gotterwohnung neben den Grabern die einzigen Gebaude in Agypten waren, die aus Stein erbaut wurden. Der Wirtschaftsbetrieb, der die Gotterwohnung umgebende Gebaudeteil, wird aus Ziegeln errichtet.1Der Bedeutungsunterschied wird noch deutlicher im Vergleich zu den einfachen Wohnhausern, die aus Lehm und Holz gefertigt wurden. Wie so vieles im Alten Agypten geht auch der Tempelbau auf einen Mythos, in diesem Fall den Grundungsmythos zuruck. Dieser besagt, dass aus dem Urmeer, dem Nun, eine kleine Lehminsel auftauchte und ein halbgottliches Wesen ein vom Wasser angetriebenes Stuck Schilfrohr in diese hineinsteckte. Auf diesem entstandenen 'Pfosten' liess sich in der damals herrschenden Dunkelheit ein Falke nieder, wodurch dieser Ort zu einer 'heiligen Statte' wurde. Um ihn von der profanen Welt abzuschirmen, wurde er mit einem einfachen Schilfzaun eingefriedet. Bei absinkendem Wasser wurde mehr Platz auf der Lehminsel freigegeben und es kamen weitere Kammern vor und neben dem Allerheiligsten, der Gotterwohnung, hinzu. Von diesem nun entstandenen Tempel, mehr noch vom Allerheiligsten, erhofften sich die Agypter die Gegenwart des residierenden Gottes, seine segnenden und vor allem fruchtbringenden und Leben erneuernden Krafte.
