About the Book

Der Orpheus-Mythos ist in allen Künsten und daher für alle Geisteswissenschaften von großer Bedeutung. Besonders wichtig aber ist er in der Musik und ihrer Geschichte: Mit ihm beginnt im Jahre 1600 die Überlieferung der neu erfundenen Gattung Oper. Seitdem besaß er für Komponisten gerade des musikdramatischen Genres eine ungewöhnliche Anziehungskraft und besitzt sie noch. Im Sommersemester 2003 fand an der Universität Hamburg eine öffentliche Ringvorlesung über dieses Thema statt, an der Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler (auch von anderen Universitäten) aus den Disziplinen Philosophie, Klassische Philologie, Germanistik, Romanistik, Italianistik, Kunstgeschichte und Musikwissenschaft mit 10 Beiträgen teilnahmen.

About the Author :
Die Herausgeberin: Claudia Maurer Zenck ist Professorin für Historische Musikwissenschaft an der Universität Hamburg. Sie studierte an der Universität Freiburg im Breisgau und an der TU Berlin, wo sie auch promovierte. Ihre Habilitation erfolgte an der Universität Innsbruck, ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind Claude Debussy, Ernst Krenek, Mozarts Opern, Musik im Exil und Musiktheorie des 18. Jahrhunderts.
