About the Book

This volume contains the 22 contributions of the Workshop on 3D-Computation at Incompressible Internal Flows held in 1989 at the EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland. This was the first GAMM Workshop on Numerical Methods in Fluid Mechanics developed to a real industrial problem, namely the flow simulation through a Francis turbine configuration. A large part of this book deals with the analysis of the contributed simulations and with their comparisons with the experimental data. It also contains a detailed description of the text cases, of the experimental set up and of the experimental data base.

Table of Contents:
1. Test Cases Specifications.- 2. Experimental Results.- Experimental Flow Study of the GAMM Turbine Model.- Normalization of Flow Profile Data Measured at Runner Inlet.- 3. Numerical Flow Simulations.- A 3D Euler Solution of Francis Runner Using Pseudo-Compressibility.- Numerical Inviscid Flow Analysis of the GAMM Francis Runner.- Euler Simulations of Flow in a Francis Distributor and Runner.- Numerical Solution of the Incompressible Euler Equations in a Water Turbine Using a Multi-Block Approach.- A Stacking Technique for Multistage 3D Flow Computation in Hydraulic Turbomachinery.- 3D Euler Computation of the Flow inside the GAMM Francis Runner.- 3D N-S FEM Flow Analysis in Draft Tube.- Computation of 3D Flow Field in a Draft Tube.- 3D-Euler Flow Analysis of Runner and Draft Tube of the GAMM Turbine.- A Potential Prediction of Three-Dimensional Incompressible Flows through Turbomachinery Blade Rows.- 3D Flow Analysis in the Runner and the Distributor of Francis Turbines.- Calculation of the Draft Tube Geometry Using the Finite-Element-Code FENFLOSS.- Three-Dimensional Turbulent Flow Analysis for a Hydraulic Turbine Draft Tube by the Finite Element Method.- 3D Viscous Flow Analyses for the GAMM Workshop Draft Tube and Francis Runner.- 4. Synthesis.- Critical Evaluation and Comparison of Contributed Solutions.- List of Participants.
