About the Book

Table of Contents:
1. Kräfte in der Biologie 2. Einführung in die Grundlagen der Mechanik 3. Kräfte und Kräftemessung 4. Die Mechanik von Polymerketten 5. Wechselwirkungen 6. Wechselwirkungen zwischen einzelnen Molekülen 7. Die Mechanik einzelner DNA- und RNA-Moleküle 8. Die Mechanik einzelner Proteinmoleküle 9. Bewegung in der Nanobiologie 10. Die Mechanik von Zellen 11. Manipulation einzelner Moleküle 12. Finite-Elemente-Analyse von mikroskopischen biologischen Strukturen A. Grundzüge der linearen Mechanik nach Landau und Lifschitz B. Die Mechanik von Balken C. Persistenzlänge und Kuhnlänge D. Hertzmodell Index

About the Author :
Atsushi Ikai is a Research Professor in the Innovation Laboratory of Tokyo Institute of Technology, Yokohama, Japan. After receiving his Ph.D. from Duke University in Physical Biochemistry, he took up an Assistantship at the University of Tokyo, and was later promoted to Associate Professor at the same University. He then moved to Tokyo Institute of Technology as Professor of Biodynamics. After his retirement from the position in 2008, he has been keeping a research laboratory at the same institute. He published about 220 peer reviewed papers in English and authored or coauthored more than 20 scientific books including "The World of Nano-Biomechanics". He received the Society Award of the Surface Science Society of Japan (SSSJ) and was/is on the editorial boards of Biophysical Chemistry, Current Nanoscience, Current Protein and Peptide Science, Journal of Biochemistry, Biophysics (the Biophysical Society of Japan), and e-Journal of Surface Science and Nanotechnology (SSSJ).
