About the Author :
Dale Purves ist der George-B.-Geller-Professor für Neurobiologie Emeritus am Duke Institute for Brain Sciences, wo er weiterhin als Forschungsprofessor tätig ist. Zudem hat er zusätzliche Professuren im Bereich Psychologie und Gehirnwissenschaften sowie in der Abteilung für Philosophie an der Duke University inne. Nach dem Erwerb eines B.A. in Yale, einem M.D. in Harvard und einer zusätzlichen postdoktoralen Ausbildung am Harvard und University College London trat er 1973 der Fakultät der Washington University School of Medicine bei. 1990 wurde er der Gründungsleiter der Abteilung für Neurobiologie am Duke Medical Center und war anschließend Direktor des Duke Center for Cognitive Neuroscience. Außerdem war er Direktor des Neuroscience and Behavioral Disorders Program an der Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School in Singapur. Purves ist bekannt für seine Arbeiten zur neuronalen Entwicklung und synaptischen Plastizität. In den letzten 20 Jahren konzentrierte sich seine Forschung darauf, die visuelle Wahrnehmung und die auditorische Wahrnehmung im Kontext von Musik zu erklären.
