About the Book

This is a true story and the definitive account of a renowned fire investigator and the nine-year mission of the heart that led to the discovery of arson and political conspiracy in the 1944 Ringling circus fire, an American tragedy equal in scope to the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. LT. Rick Davey's internationally publicised re-investigation of the celebrated case resolved all of the mysteries swirling around the suspicious blaze that destroyed the Ringling circus and killed 168 people -- including a beautiful but unknown 8-year-old girl who was known for 50 years as 'Little Miss 1565'.

Review :
Willow Brook Press has inaugurated the Hartford Circus Fire Memorial Fund, with a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each copy of A MATTER OF DEGREE going toward the establishment of an artistic and contemplative memorial offering visitors an opportunity to reflect on the value of human life while considering the circus fire as an important historical event. Having taken 168 lives, the fire echoes the tragic scope of the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995--but four times as many children were lost in the Hartford circus fire. A MATTER OF DEGREE was chosen as a finalist in ForeWord Magazine's BOOK OF THE YEAR Awards in the history category for 2001.
