About the Book

Find out how reading just one book can lead to a brand-new library in this lively chain-reaction story about actions and their consequences – however unintended they may be! Violet has searched her room high and low, but just can’t find a book she hasn’t read before. She wishes her town had a library; a magical place full of adventure where she would never run out of stories to discover. But alas, on this particular rainy day, the only unfamiliar book she can find is the one propping up the kitchen table. Dad won’t miss it, right?...  With a CLATTER and a CRASH, Violet’s actions set in motion an unstoppable chain of events that soon has the whole town in chaos! Young readers will delight at the playful, colourful illustrations, while learning an important lesson about how actions lead to consequences. The story also introduces children to the wonder of libraries, while highlighting their vital role in fostering literacy. One Book Was All it Took is the perfect tongue-in-cheek adventure story to share with budding bookworms. From the hilarity of the chaos that Violet causes, to the heart-warming reminder of the important role libraries have played in many of our lives, readers of all ages will find joy in this vibrant book. It is also an excellent introduction to the concept of how our actions can affect others, an important lesson for all young ones – especially Violet!

About the Author :
Wenda Shurety, or Wobbly Wenda, is a children's author, scientist and archer. She grew up in England, worked in New York and now lives in Australia. Wenda’s books are inspired by her love of being a mum, and the hope that has helped her through her struggle with Multiple Sclerosis.  Amy Calautti loved to draw from a young age and often made up games based around drawing to entertain her younger brother and cousins. Amy now lives with her small tribe of humans who inspire her every day.

Review :
“One girl's actions lead to chaotic consequences in One Book Was All it Took, a book about the importance of libraries.” “This aspect of the story makes One Book Was All It Took a fun first book about actions and consequences with no didactic overtone. Violet’s interest in books and desire for a library also supports parents and teachers wanting to instil a love of literature in their young kids.” This bright, fun picture book is perfect for all young book lovers or any who have sent a wish out into the world. One Book Was All It Took to change an entire community, through a parade of flow on events via a missed bus, a vet visit and a hole in a roof. This story would be a great way to spark imaginations about consequences – as in…’What if….?’ It’s the perfect rainy day for reading a book, but Violet can’t find any that she hasn’t read. When she manages to snag the only unfamiliar book in the house, the one propping up the kitchen table, she accidentally sets a chain of events into motion that leads to lots of funny things happening all over town, including, eventually, a new town library. One book was all it took! This is a humorous and fun read with expressive illustrations. “There is movement, colour and drama in this picture book, One Book Was All It Took. Each page is designed to grab the reader and propel them into the story. What could be more disastrous for a young book worm on a rainy day, than to be out of new books?.” “A delightful picture book that children aged 3-6 will love. Amy Calautti’s carton-like line and water colour illustrations are a wonderful complement to Wenda Shurety’s brilliantly simple story, that is exciting and engaging … a wonderful book that children will want to hear and see many times” A magical picture book for kids four and up who believe in the power of reading, books and libraries. This inspiring book will lead to countless discussions on actions and consequences i.e. cause and effect. “Wenda writes the sort of timeless stories you expect should already be in the world ~ sort of gently profound.” “This neatly resolved story will cause much laughter from the reader, most of whom will know the value of their own community or school library”. “Offers a great insight into how advocacy can lead to action.”
