About the Book

As an advocate for the child in a world of adults, this book is intended for anyone involved in parenting and for all those who care that children should be nurtured in such a way that they are free to reach their potential throughout life, without being continually hindered by the scars from mental wounds suffered in childhood. It is the book the author wishes she had read before she had her own family. In addition it speaks to the wounded child in many adults, that part of us that comes between us and everything we could and should be; until, that is, we pay attention and do the work of healing those ancient pains. It also provides hope for successful re-parenting: a It is never too late to be the parent we would have liked to have been had our own history been different.

About the Author :
Born in Reading, the author moved to Suffolk when she married in 1968. After nearly twenty years as a wife and mother, bringing up her three children, she went back to school and eventually gained a degree in Philosophy at Essex University. After university she went on to train as a counsellor. By then, she says, she had experienced enough healing for the inheritance of depression and unhappiness carried from her childhood to know that a degree of healing is possible. We just need the right conditions, and those conditions can be made available within a counselling relationship. Another twenty years on, she has her own counselling practice, teaches a counselling skills and self-awareness course and works part-time as a medical receptionist. These, together with her family, six beautiful grandchildren and a few good friends, are her 'ebb and flow of life'.
