About the Book

The adventures of Will and his CCC friends in Book III, the last of this three-book series, include floods, rescues, and a fire, along with plenty of fun. Will also participates in the traditional tasks of rural Vermont - planting crops and helping neighbors - and new pleasures and pastimes such as movies and dances. By the end of the story, after years of hard work and danger, the boys of CCC Camp 129 have reached the top of the mountain. As the corpsmen celebrate the completion of the summit road and prepare to move to another CCC camp, Will Ryan and his best friend Carrie ponder what the future may hold after their upcoming last year of High School.

About the Author :
Judith Edwards, author of The Great Expedition of Lewis and Clark (Farrar, Straus and Giroux) and twelve other young adult, middle grade, and children's books, lives in southeastern Vermont near Mount Ascutney State Park - one of many parks nationwide whose roads, stone buildings, and campsites were created by CCC corpsmen in the 1930s.

Review :
""Edwards, a Colorado native who has lived in Vermont since 1972, primarily writes for an elementary and middle school audience. The story of Will Ryan and the CCC is tailored to appeal to students that age, but also to teach them important lessons which might not be as obvious as one thinks . . . She has worked with schools to create programs designed to encourage kids to read while engaging them with the local environment. One such program, located in Ludlow, is called Quest. Quest brings students to three different mountains in the area while the kids read the Will Ryan trilogy."" --Bennington Banner, June 22, 2013 ""The final book in Edwards' Civilian Conservation Corps trilogy, 'At the Top of the Mountain, ' recently published by Images From the Past, continues the story of Will Ryan . . . [author] Edwards said her knowledge about the CCC and Vermont expanded every time she gave a talk about her first book [Invasion on the Mountain], and Vermonters were eager to share their personal knowledge--often of a relative--of the corps' work in Vermont. Many of the photographs in the books came from those Vermonters . . . "" --Rutland Herald, July 1, 2013 ""Camp 129 serves as the backdrop for Edwards' trilogy of books about the CCC. The concluding chapter in the series, 'At the Top of the Mountain, ' will be released Tuesday. Like its predecessors, the new book features photographs by men who actually served in the CCC . . . 'So many Vermonters had relatives in the CCC that the subject never stops growing, ' said Edwards, who belongs to the CCC Legacy, a membership organization dedicated to promoting the history of the CCC."" --Burlington Free Press, June 22, 2013
