About the Book

The story of one of Wales's most famous duos, Ryan and Ronnie, by the broadcaster, Hywel Gwynfryn, who leads us behind the screens on their lives, two personalities who were compared to Morecambe and Wise and to the Two Ronnies, but who became stars in their own right, albeit for a comparatively short period.

Review :
Mae rhai blynyddoedd penodol yn cael eu cyfri fel trobwynt, a dyman wir oedd 1965 blwyddyn hanesyddol mewn sawl maes, ac yn arbennig ym myd adloniant a darlledu yng Nghymru. Ar 27 Medi 1965, arwyddodd Ryan Davies o Lanaman gytundeb blwyddyn 'r BBC, y cytundeb cyntaf or fath, ac ymhen y rhawg, dan drefniant Meredydd Evans, gwireddwyd ail hanner y freuddwyd gyda dyfodiad Ronnie Williams o Gefneithin, gan lenwi bwlch ym myd y gomedi Gymraeg. Dywed y gyfrol mai priodas wedii threfnu oedd Ryan a Ronnie, a Merd oedd wedi penderfynu pwy fyddair pr priod a beth fyddai trefn y gwasanaeth. Diolch i Merd am ei weledigaeth a diolch i Hywel Gwynfryn am ei gymwynas enfawr yn cyflwyno hanes bywyd Ryan a Ronnie yn y gyfrol hynod ddarllenadwy hon. Dyma gyfanwaith yn wir syn darllen fel nofel, yn afaelgar dros ben, yn grefftus ac yn meddu ar adnabyddiaeth drwyadl or cymeriadau a byd adloniant Cymraeg yn y 60au ar 70au. Dawn yr awdur yw ei lwyddiant i ddarlunior ddau adnabyddus hyn yn gymeriadau crwn, au cyflwyno mor onest a chartrefol. Ond heb os nac oni bai, mae l oriau lawer o ymchwil ar y gyfrol, ac l pori trwy ddeunyddiau, cynnal cyfweliadau di-ri a phwyso a mesur safbwyntiau. Yn anad dim, yr hyn a geir yma yw adnabyddiaeth lwyr or byd darlledu ac adloniant ar cymeriadau a chwaraeai ran flaenllaw yn y sefydliad yng Nghymru. Mae'r awdur yn rhoi cryn sylw i'r ddau unigolyn ar wahn, gan brofi mai dau ddyn rhinweddau personol oedd Ryan a Ronnie; efallai mair ffordd y ceisiodd y ddau ddarganfod eu hunaniaeth a'r modd y gwnaethon nhw ddelio hynny oedd prif wendid y ddau yn y diwedd. Dau yn bwydo oddi ar ei gilydd oeddynt ond dau oedd eisiau sylw a chlod fel unigolion hefyd. Cyfeirir atynt yn aml fel y Morecambe and Wise Cymraeg, neu efallai, yn fwy priodol, Ronnie Barker a Ronnie Corbett The Two Ronnies. Ys dywed Hywel Gwynfryn: Ryan oedd y brawd bach drwg oedd yn feistr ar greu hafoc. Ronnie oedd y brawd mawr yn ceisio cadw trefn ar y bychan ... Ronnie oedd y goeden i gwreddiaun ddwfn yn y ddaear, a Ryan y corwynt dinistriol yn rhedeg i bob cyfeiriad. Oedd, roedd yna ddau unigolyn reit wahanol i'w gilydd: Ryan yr actor, y canwr, y dawnsiwr, y comediwr, y meimiwr, yn symud yn ystwyth, gydai amseru perffaith yn creu pum munud gwefreiddiol o gomedi cofiadawy, a Ronnie y cynhyrchydd, y cyfarwyddwr, actor, dynwaredwr, sgriptiwr a chyflwynydd yn Gymraeg ar Saesneg, ar y radio ar teledu. Wrth roir holl gynhwysion hyn yn y pair esgorwyd ar bartneriaeth flaenllaw a wefreiddiodd cynulleidfaoedd Cymru. Bu'r act yn llwyddiant ysgubol yng Nghymru ond a oedd hynnyn ddigon? Yn raddol ysai Ronnie am gydnabyddiaeth ac roedd byw yng nghysgod Ryan yn ei boeni, tra ysai Ryan am ryddid i ehangu i Loegr a, chyda gobaith, America. Wedi concro Cymru, roedd Ryan ar dn a gwaith yn ei yrru. Yn ddi-os, roedd yn gorweithio, a rhaid cofio mai gwr eiddil ydoedd, ond mynnai wthior ffiniau. Gwaethar modd, beirniadaethau cymysg a gafwyd ou hymdrechion yn Lloegr, a llwyddodd Hywel Gwynfryn, yn gelfydd ac yn llawn cydymdeimlad, i gyfleu amheuaeth y cyfnod ac ansicrwydd yn y cwys a geisiwyd ei thorri gan y ddau. Nodar awdur fel y bu i Ronnie gilio, a bun brwydro rhwng ei dalent amlwg ai broblemau personol hyd weddill ei fywyd. Yn dilyn marwolaeth ddisymwth Ryan, croniclodd Ronnie ei gyfraniad ai bersonoliaeth: Fin cofio mewn un cyngerdd, pan on nhwn clapo ac yn gweiddi am fwy, fe waeddodd Ryan: Be chi moyn? Gwaed? A dyna gawson nhw. Ac wedi blynyddoedd o gilio or llwyfan, daeth y newyddion trasig am farwolaeth Ronnie. Un peth y gellir ei ddweud yn bendant yw bod cyfraniad Ryan a Ronnie, fel unigolion ac fel deuawd, wedi bod yn amhrisiadwy i fyd adloniant Cymru, a bod ymgorffori talentaur ddau wedi rhoi i ni gymeriadau ac atgofion sydd yn dal yn fyw ar wefusau Cymru benbaladr, a hynny hanner canrif yn ddiweddarach. Diolch am eu doniau, a diolch i Hywel Gwynfryn am groniclor cyfan mewn perl o gyfrol.
