About the Book

You might think a Cobra is an unattainable dream, and you’d be right. However, a replica that looks just like one and works rather better is not only attainable – it costs about the same as a Toyota. Iain Ayre has been reviewing, building and designing Cobra replicas for decades: there’s nobody better to have in your pocket when you stop dreaming and start checking out buying or building one for real. This book condenses all you need to know into 64 packed pages covering Cobra types; low, medium and high budgets; buying pitfalls; engine and donor recommendations; good and bad points – pretty much everything you need to know to start scaring BMWs with budget V8 thunder. Iain Ayre writes for both Kit Car Magazine (UK) and Kit Car Builder (USA), is a keen kit car builder, and author of several other sports car books.

Table of Contents:
1.Is a Cobra replica right for you? 2.Cost considerations 3.Living with a Cobra replica 4.Relative values 5.Before you view 6.Inspection equipment 7.Fifteen-minute evaluation 8.Key points 9.Serious evaluation 10.Auctions 11.Paperwork 12.What's it worth? 13.Do you want to build or buy? 14.Paint problems 15.Lack-of-use problems 16.The Cobra community 17.Vital statistics Index

About the Author :
Iain Ayre has written two previous guides to British Cobra replicas. He writes about extreme-performance cars for Kit Car magazine (UK) and Kit Car Builder (USA), and recently published The Kitcar Manual. He has written two major books on TVR, and others on slower cars such as Ferraris, Maseratis, and Porsches. He built his first kit car in the 1980s, and his first Cobra replica in the 1990s - a Cobretti with Jaguar axles and a Chevrolet V8. His second Cobra was a budget V8 upgrade as recommended in British Cobra Replicas. He is currently developing a new Ayrspeed Cobra replica, an outrageous turbocharged 450bhp, ultralight Mazda-based street and track car.
