About the Book

At the heart of this anthology is the village of East Scythe, firmly footed in the imagination, situated a few miles to the east of Sutton Hoo and on the northern most edge of Rendlesham Forest, in Suffolk, England. Close by is Butley River and access to the coast. Since East Scythe entered the history books, sometime around the sixteenth century, it has remained the small village it started as, drawing its wealth from the land and the sea via Butley River. But not forgoing progress; it has moved with the times. This anthology delves into East Scythe's history; past, present and future, giving an insight into its population, their perspectives, goals and aspirations, but mostly the traumas that have plagued the community ever since the village was first settled. As with all the Writers Anonymous anthologies each story is bracketed by short and poignant poems. Blue Moon - Abigail moves to a quiet country cottage in East Scythe to escape her London problems. But will her new home bring her romance or will her nightmares return to haunt her? Chemical Romance - Swine flu has reappeared in East Scythe and many die. Four teenagers find themselves alone in the village. Why have the four not succumbed? Daisy, one of the teenagers, keeps a diary chronicling their struggle to survive. Dark Odyssey - Roger chooses a restful holiday in rural Suffolk intending to explore the reputed UFO landing site and visit the World War II airfields, but gets more than he bargained for. What is behind his escalating nightmares? East Scythe Anecdotal - When a village evolves over the centuries, things and people happen, some smoothly but most not. East Scythe's history has been captured in a series of incredulous anecdotes, which, unless recorded, will fade into oblivion. These are some of the worst and the best. Murders Most Foul - It's 1644 and artist John Devereux is sent to East Scythe to replace its missing High Constable. Thrown in at the deep end when one of the villagers is apparently murdered, he uses his artistic skills to attempt to solve the crime. Nothing is straight forward and others die. Reluctantly he has to rely on his donkey for help. They're Back Again - Following the weird happenings of 1980, it was decreed; "The people must not be told." Twenty odd years later, people have forgotten - but not all. Haunted by the past, James, Roy and Martina discover that they will never forget. To Live or Die - Jack and Harry are brothers. Even the move to East Scythe, with its suicide clinic, fails to spoil the village's charm. But when a local, old Mr. Jones, and Jack's brother disappear, it's left to Jack to discover the incredible truth.
