About the Book

A story about James, his dad and a crisis at the school's jubilee concert. Can James' golden jumper save the day? It's the school's 50th anniversary and James is looking forward to taking part in their jubilee concert.

About the Author :
Chris S. Stephens has been a successful headteacher in West Wales, an English lecturer at Trinity College, Carmarthen, and more recently an advisory teacher for literacy in Pembrokeshire. He is currently Officer for English in Wales at the Welsh Joint Education Council and working as a freelance children's writer and literacy advisor.

Review :
James’s grandmother has knitted a present for him: a golden jumper with sparkly bits. She thinks it’s beautiful, but James hates wearing it. He hates wearing it on Bonfire Night, he hates wearing it for the Jubilee Concert dress rehearsal, and he hates wearing it for the Jubilee Concert itself. But when disaster strikes at the concert, James changes his mind about his jumper. Young children will empathise with James, and the adults reading to them will be reminded of every concert, nativity play and eisteddfod where things went hilariously wrong. The colourful illustrations complement the story, especially those of the children in their costumes milling about on the stage after disaster has struck. A Woolly Adventure for James and his Golden Jumper With über-cool celebrities from Cameron Diaz to Kate Moss regularly snapped with knitting needles at the ready, the hobby once loved only by grannies has made a remarkable come-back in recent years. Its ever growing popularity has even lead to National Knitting Week, now an annual event, this year running from the 12th to 19th of October. But whilst the younger generation are happily casting on and purling their stress away, the curse of dodgy presents knitted by granny still lives on in James and the Golden Jumper, an endearing new book from best-selling author Chris S. Stephens. Ever suffered the toe-curling embarrassment of having to wear a sparkly golden jumper knitted by your gran? James has! Wearing it to the Bonfire Party is bad enough, but worse is to come when he has to wear it on stage in front of the whole school for their Jubilee Concert. How embarrassing! But when the lights cut out mid performance, James discovers that his special jumper isn’t quite so bad after all. The sparkly golden wool glows in the dark, lighting up the hall for all to see! Thank goodness for James and his Golden Jumper! With lively, entertaining text and colourful, stimulating pictures that will feed children’s imaginations, James and the Golden Jumper is a heart-warming story full of feel-good factor which is sure to appeal to young readers. Although award-winning author Chris S. Stephens has added his own distinctive sparkle to the story, it is inspired by the children of Mount Airey C. P School, Haverfordwest and their 'Jubilee Rap', performed at the school’s Jubilee Anniversary celebrations. Fantastic illustrations from experienced illustrator Ian P. Benfold Haywood bring Chris’ words to life and complement his energetic text.
