About the Book

Becca Meister Fitzpatrick, wife, mother, grandmother, and pillar of the community, is the dutiful steward of her family's iconic summer tradition until she discovers her recently deceased husband squandered their nest egg. While coming to terms with what is likely to be her last season in Long Harbor, she decides to introduce the child she gave up for adoption fifty years prior to the family. Inspired by her granddaughter's acceptance in the face of impending single-motherhood, Becca summons the courage to reveal the secret she'd been forced to bury. The question is how her daughter, Rachel, will react. They'd always had a strained relationship, made rockier when Rachel came home from college with an unplanned pregnancy of her own. Eden is the account of the days leading up to the Fourth of July weekend, as Becca prepares to disclose her secret, and her son and brothers conspire to put the estate on the market, interwoven with the century old history of Becca's family, of her parents' beginnings and ascent into affluence, and of her mother's own secret struggles in the grand home her father named "Eden."

About the Author :
Jeanne Blasberg is an award-winning and bestselling author and essayist. Eden, her debut novel, won the Benjamin Franklin Silver Award for Best New Voice in Fiction and was a finalist for the Sarton Women's Book Award for Historical Fiction. Her novel, Daughter of a Promise is a modern retelling of the legend of David and Bathsheba, completing the thematic trilogy she began with Eden and The Nine. Marnye Young is an award-winning narrator for New York Times and USA Today bestselling authors. A SAG-AFTRA voice, stage, and screen actor, she has spent her life in the South, Midwest, and North. Having performed in Romania, Sweden, Scotland, New York City, and elsewhere, she has been praised for her impeccable comic timing as well as her ability to make you cry. She has also been called an "accent guru." When she isn't narrating, she's podcasting, writing a self-deprecating comical blog about her identical twins, fishing, following NASCAR, volunteering (CRIS radio and TIC), running a small play-reading group in NYC, raising chickens, and of course "mom"ing. Her favorite literary character is Sherlock Holmes. She would like to thank everyone who made it possible for her to be where she is today.

Review :
"Eden is a heartbreaking novel about the wounds that are passed down through generations. Blasberg's voice is strong and clear, and her characters are so real―with their ambitions and their weaknesses, their good intentions and their resentments―that no reader is likely to forget them." -- "Ivy Pochoda, author of Visitation Street" "...[A] beautifully written masterpiece that takes you on a historical journey inside a tormented family's summer home to reveal painful secrets, utter heartbreak, and major family drama. An inspiring first novel." -- "Boston Herald" "Eden is not just another farewell-to-the-summer-house novel, but instead a masterfully interwoven family saga with indelible characters, unforgettable stories, and true pathos. Most impressive, there's not an ounce of fat on this excellent book." -- "Anita Shreve, New York Times bestselling author" "Eden is [a] poignant and powerful debut novel." -- "Reader Views" "A stirring historical novel perfect for women's fiction fans." -- "Booklist" "The 2000 summer season in fictional Long Harbor, Rhode Island, becomes the setting for a family reunion and the revelation of a long-held secret, not to mention the airing of more than a few resentments, in this debut novel. An engrossing, character-driven family saga." -- "Kirkus Reviews" "With familial drama so mesmerizing and gripping from the first page, it's hard to believe that this is only Blasberg's first literary blessing to the world." -- "Brit+Co"
