About the Book

From post punk Liverpool and Big in Japan to producing and working with acts like Echo & The Bunnymen and The Fall, Ian Broudie established a cult following early in his career. But in 1989, he returned to where it all began: his bedroom, tape recorder and guitar in hand. Out of necessity, with no record contract and no band in place, Ian sang and played everything on the tapes himself, recording in his "spare bedroom". The record took off and his next three records received huge critical acclaim. Released in 1994, Jollification sold over one million copies worldwide and the Lightning Seeds became one of the biggest bands of the '90s. Together with comedians David Baddiel and Frank Skinner, Ian released the 1996 single 'Three Lions' to mark the England football team's participation in Euro 96, the first major football tournament to be held in England since they had won the World Cup in 1966. Three Lions is the only single in chart history to reach number one in the UK singles chart on four separate occasions. Now, following the release of the Lightning Seeds' long-awaited comeback album, Ian shares his memories of a life of musical adventures from 70s Liverpool and Eric's, to Echo & The Bunnymen and gigs across northern England with Big in Japan, to The Coral and The Zutons at the start of a new century, via a 90s rollercoaster of triumphs and mishaps, with the Lightning Seeds from "Pure" to "Three Lions" and beyond!

About the Author :
IAN BROUDIE originally emerged from the post-punk Liverpool music scene of the late '70s, playing in the band Big in Japan. Before the band ended, they created the indie label Zoo Records, which in turn led to Ian producing for an array of high-profile bands (sometimes credited with the pseudonym 'Kingbird'). Releasing his first record under the name 'Lightning Seeds' - the imaginary group he had envisioned when he wrote his songs in the hope it would become a reality - Ian went on to find considerable success as the band's frontman, culminating in the history-making 'Three Lions'. Ian's studio is now located in Liverpool and he continues to write, record and produce material for the Lightning Seeds and as a soloist.

Review :
'His excellent new memoir Tomorrow's Here Today reads like one of his own songs: full of heart and sparkling melancholy. It contains highly entertaining, often self-deprecating stories about a journey that began immersed in the thriving Liverpool punk scene of the late '70s that was populated with an improbable number of future pop stars.' 'All Ian Broudie's great gifts as a songwriter - melody, vulnerability, empathy, hope - turn out to be in his prose too. A lovely read.' 'Brilliant ... it's a beautiful book' 'The best start to an autobiography I've read. I've got "Pure" on a loop this morning.' 'He tells an enthralling tale with the wide-eyed wonder of an innocent bystander. Tomorrow's Here Today is a pure delight.' 'One of the greatest rock 'n' roll stories of the past fifty years recounted with warmth and wisdom.' 'Ian's story is a great one. And, as his memoir attests, he tells it really well.' 'He may appear quiet, but it would be wrong to think that he does not have strong opinions. What comes over from this book is how driven he is when it comes to music. Each chapter sounds as if Ian is talking directly to you. Revealing ... [and] sharply observational.' 'A fascinating memoir ... there are points in the book where you suddenly find yourself moving in deep water. Love, loss, grief. The stuff of being human.' '[A] hilarious and touching memoir.'
