About the Book

Journey through Lent with the insight and imagination of the Oxford Inklings - a group of writers who reshaped Christian thought and storytelling in the twentieth century. Drawing on the work of some of the Inklings’ most well-known members, C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien, as well as friends of the Inklings such as Dorothy Sayers and T.S. Eliot, Wardrobes and Rings explores through their eyes a faith which is tinged with seriousness, creativity and joy. This devotional draws on their writings - fiction, poetry, and essays - offering daily readings and reflections that illuminate the path to the cross and resurrection. Weekly themes such as temptation, time, nature and creativity guide the way. Written by Julia Golding, Malcolm Guite and Simon Horobin: a novelist, a poet-priest, and an Oxford professor all deeply immersed in the Inklings’ world and wisdom, Wardrobes and Rings invites you to rediscover Lent through the lens of imagination-infused faith.

About the Author :
Julia Golding is a multi-award-winning novelist, writing for adults, young adults and children. Over a million of her books have been published in over 20 languages. Malcolm Guite is a bestselling poet and author, and is in great demand as a speaker and performer. Simon Horobin is Fellow and Tutor in English at Magdalen College and has lectured and published widely on C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. He holds the position that C.S. Lewis had when he was at the college.

Review :
"C.S. Lewis once famously said, at an Inklings meeting in The Eagle & Child, after drinking only three pints before lunch, that he was “going short for Lent.” I felt a similar sense of abstemiousness as I read this book. If it counts as an ascetic journey through the wilderness to read Lewis, Tolkien and other writers in their circle, while enjoying the richly helpful guidance of Golding, Guite and Horobin, then I can hardly imagine what I’m going to do for Christmas. Feast on this fast!" "Every now and then, a book comes along that seems like it was written just for you. Wardrobes and Rings is one of those books. Golding, Guite, and Horobin draw on the writings of the Inklings that we love so much and direct them toward a devotional purpose. The Inklings serve as guides to point us to the God they loved so much. This book makes me look forward to Lent." "Readers of Wardrobes and Rings will find that in Golding, Guite, and Horobin they have three wise and knowledgable guides on this journey, who show their deep love for the literary works of the Inklings and their world and invite the reader to share in their delight. Their insights, presented with a pleasingly light and gentle touch, are sure to enrich readers' spiritual life and nourish their imaginations." 'Wardrobes and Rings is a splendid book, inviting the reader into an inspiring conversation between literature and faith centred around the beloved works of the Inklings. The authors bring their deep knowledge into focus to produce daily passages of insight which prompt thought and prayer. Each of the three has a distinctive voice, which adds to the feeling of exploring familiar texts (and some less familiar ones) in the company of wise and witty guides.'
