About the Book

No one teaches us how to live in a body. Wouldn't it be helpful to know the best way to use our brain? Could it be that we are born with an internal instruction manual? Might it be hidden inside each of us from birth? Within a language that many people overlook? Welcome to Smartview Stories(TM) - a self-empowerment book series for children and adults ages 9-99! Our emotional literacy stories help unlock this instruction manual and its hidden language. Our body and brain are always wanting our well-being. We can learn their language. This language reveals what is going on inside of us and around us. With practice, a mutual trust develops within us. What did not seem at all possible IS possible. Walking Together, Book 2 features the Poplar Family. Movement is an important aspect of how we can support ourselves in living brain healthy lives. All three stories involve situations where Stryder or Wendy find someone to walk with them through new experiences. For the part of our brain that is uncomfortable with not-knowing, this sense of walking together brings relief and ease. In Quiet Like a Deer, Stryder finds himself awake at night with a strong inner knowing he'd like to explore. Wendy joins him. In New Moon Walking, Wendy convinces Mama that their feet can grow eyes and dance in the dark if they join Grammy and Grampy for their monthly New Moon Walk. Frustration builds up in Stryder as he plays games online with his friends in The Blame Game. Papa shows us how he gives Stryder space, acceptance and encouragement that he will find his own way, rather than a sense something is wrong. And, of course, they walk as they talk. Our setting is Smartview Village, a small intentional community formed to practice these inner relational skills. The way they live changes. These families recognize the value of sharing their stories. Each book includes three short stories featuring one family. A fourth story features our Inner Companions. Based on neuroscience concepts, these three characters help illustrate our inner world.

About the Author :
Smartview Stories(TM) is a children's emotional literacy empowerment book project that was birthed on the new moon of July, 2018. This came quite by surprise, I simply woke up that morning and knew I wanted to do this, that all of me was onboard, and that this project would unfold all in its own ripe timing. I teach inner relationship or neural brain rewiring skills as a Focusing trainer for The International Focusing Institute. I am also a neuroscience geek, mother of 3, trained in permaculture design who has lived in small intentional communities since 2005. All of this folds into how these books have evolved. Every Smartview Story will give the sense of an edge, where we know 'this much' clearly, and this other part, is not yet clear. Edges can be very uncomfortable in real life. Most of us have all sorts of protective behaviors in place to avoid them. We might change the subject, move out of the room, get something to eat, turn to our smartphones. It is very important to understand that edges are also where our brains take in new information. If we think we already know the answer, as in we only notice what is comfortable and clear already to us, then we miss an opportunity to learn something new. A younger child is naturally interested and curious about life. Sometimes we say kids are like sponges they learn so fast. And somehow, slowly, this sponginess gets stiffer and we are not so open to learning new things. Our stories will encourage using our brain in ways that support life-long learning habits.Life becomes a real adventure when you are willing to explore what is happening within/among/around you right now, freshly. It could be, this moment now, you will choose to do something new, something you've never done before. I certainly am!I will be developing ways to stay in touch. For now, you can find me here: www.sandyjahmi.com and www.smartviewstories.com and at https: //www.facebook.com/groups/floydfocusing. Creator of our Inner Companions, Nomi Miller is a believer in magic and the power of words. She likes to draw, dance, sing, be silly, and do nothing at all. Nomi lives in a garden colony in Denmark with her son Ruben. Creator of our People, Aaron Staengl is an artist and Ayurvedic practitioner with a regular meditation and yoga practice. His company Ayurvedaposters has an international presence. He lives in the Blue Ridge mountains and enjoys spending time with his two year old son.

Review :
From the back cover: "It is very hard to describe what happens inside of ourselves. The Walking Together stories help families safely explore the inner landscape. In three beautifully illustrated stories, family members invite each other to 'pause' and 'listen to' their own body's wisdom, while they share experiences of anger, fear, and happy curiosity. Simple exercises in 'mindfulness' and Gendlin's Focusing help readers learn to 'hold a space' for the different parts inside of themselves. An important contribution to emotional literacy."
