About the Book

These are the collected short stories about Benjamin J. Shaw, The California Poet and Sometimes Detective, written by Benjamin J. Shaw, The California Poet. No, they are not the same, yet, at the same time, they are. We are all the same. In order to best understand these stories, it is recommended that you read Shaw's other works, specifically 20/20 Vision: An Anthology of 20 Twenty-something California Poets and 20/20 Vision: The Novella (available on Amazon.com). In addition, some of the works received "gold stars" in the past (see below). This doesn't mean they are great, or even good. It just means someone liked them and decided to publish them. "A Tonal Mystery" was presented at the 2004 Cal Poly Creative Writing Conference, March 13, 2004. "Galileo's Rescue" and "The Brief Biography of Benjamin J. Shaw, The California Poet" (presented here as "About the Author") were published in Calaveras Station, CSUS, Vol. 8, May 2005.

About the Author :
One part Marlowe, two parts Spade, three parts Watson and Holmes; the rest is a balance between luck and skill...all in the name of truth. Born and raised in Indiana, Shaw moved to California when he was nineteen. This may be a bit confusing, being that he is "The California Poet" instead of "The Hoosier Poet," but notice that it does not say "The Californian Poet." He gained the addition of "sometimes detective" after solving the final equation of human history, resulting in the infamous theory that is now widely accepted as the standard model of critical theory: Linear Plasticism. Since then, his goal has been to seek the truth, to bring the dark to light, ultimately making the world a better place (although doubt remains as to the value of this). In a word: He is the everyman detective, the everyman poet. Verily.
