About the Book

Following a traumatic incident in London, journalist Jennifer Dorey has returned home to Guernsey, taking a job as a local newspaper reporter. When she finds a drowned woman on a beach, Jennifer uncovers something much bigger and more sinister than she first thought. Jennifer enlists the help of DCI Michael Gilbert, an officer on the verge of retirement, to investigate a pattern of similar deaths over the last fifty years. They follow a dark trail of island myths and folklore to the illegitimate son of a Nazi soldier, whose painstakingly executed work has so far gone undetected. But as Jennifer gets closer to the truth of the killer's identity, she finds herself stepping deeper into his grasp. Jennifer thinks she's safe, but the dark hides sinister things in The Devil's Claw, Lara Dearman's exhilarating debut novel.

About the Author :
Lara Dearman was born and raised on the beautiful Channel Island of Guernsey. She moved to the UK to study international relations and French at the University of Sussex, after which she endured a brief career in finance before giving it up to be a stay at home mum to her three children. Having moved from Guernsey to Brighton to London to Paris to Singapore and back to London over the last fifteen years, she has now settled in Westchester, New York, with her family. Fiona Hardingham is a British-born actress, singer, voice-over artist, and AudioFile Earphones Award-winning narrator. On stage, she appeared at the Edinburgh Festival in her comedic one-woman show The Dark Show. She has also starred in the dark-comedy short film The Ballerino. She earned a BA honors degree in performing arts from Middlesex University, London, and also studied at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Ralph Lister is an actor, voice actor, and AudioFile Earphones Award-winning narrator. He spent fifteen years in London theater before moving to the United States to focus on film and television. He has held numerous roles in Shakespeare and modern dramas, as well as starring roles in independent films. His voice and character work can be heard in Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearland 13 Going On 30. He lives in Los Angeles.

Review :
"A perfect novel for a cold night in dark winter." -- "Foreword Reviews (starred review)" "A powerful debut. With smooth prose and engaging characters, Dearman draws her readers into a tangled web of secrets. Layer upon layer of lies and unexpected connections will keep readers guessing until the very end." -- "Karen Dionne, author of The Marsh King's Daughter" "Atmospheric and tense. Superb!" -- "Isabel Ashdown, author of Little Sister" "Dark, haunting, and full of twists." -- "Chris Whitaker, author of All the Wicked Girls" "Darkly atmospheric, nail-bitingly tense, intrigue-packed--a real crime fiction must-read!" -- "Stephanie Marland, author of My Little Eye" "Dearman's debut is...appealingly heartfelt in its heroine's entirely believable dedication." -- "Kirkus Reviews" "Hardinham and Lister deftly create distinctive dialogue for all the islanders...[and] maintain intensity and chill, even through the descriptive passages." -- "Booklist (audio review)" "The suspense rises as the narrative shifts between the points of view of frustrated, increasingly anxious Jennifer and steady, plodding Michael. Glimpses into the mind of the unknown killer heighten the tension...Dearman makes good use of the British dependency's unusual topography and history. Well-developed characters ensure that readers will want to see more of Jennifer and company." -- "Publishers Weekly"
