About the Book

I pull myself through the opening with incredible power, catching my right arm upon a piece of sharp glass; a deep cut forming a weeping abyss in my arm. I cry out but maintain my focus. I am now standing atop the roof above my conservatory; I look back to the shattered window and see the face; greasy locks of hair, a single cheek and bloodshot eyes. The poltergeist smiles, showing her rotten gums. A lowly, pale maggot is crawling upon her shoulder. It rears its front end and then ploughs it into the tattered shoulder of the girl, and then it disappears, feeding upon her rotting flesh.

About the Author :
The rain was sharp, biting into my skin like teeth into flesh; the air was heavy, thick with the mildew scent of a humid winter's day- my mood was foul. I dragged my feet along the morbid, grey concrete floor, my feet clanging with each weighted step I took. In front of my eyes was my worst enemy...The Book Shop. I was reluctant to enter; I hated books, I thought they were the most boring, pointless "hobby" in the world! Yet my mum forced me to enter, her stern hand wrapped firmly around the scruff of my shirt. The doorway was black as pitch, cold as night, evil as a demon. I entered Hell. I searched and I searched and I searched, hoping-praying- to find a book I liked, just so my mum would shut up! Yet there was nothing...all until I happened across Lord Loss (By Darren Shan); It was like a shining light amidst the Darkness, hope amidst the anguish. I began reading the first chapter, and then the second, and then the third. Then I was suddenly at home, engrossed in the spiraling pages of the gory horror. I had found my literary calling. Since then I have read novel after novel after novel in the Fantasy/Horror/Thriller genres. However, It was ultimately the reading of The Inheritance Cycle (By Christopher Paolini) that enticed me into writing my own novel "The Darkness Shines," which tells the tale of a lowly band of "Heroes" (if that's what you want to call them), as they traverse my fictitious land in search of a cure to the Darkness."
