About the Book

A action packed thriller about the parallel threats to the UK which give Detective Chief Inspector Alan Hanks the monumental task of preventing the biggest loss of life in peacetime Britain. Which threat is a dummy, or are they both real? A worldwide pandemic or a massive bombing? DCI Hanks and his team are confronted with the twin problems of political correctness and bumbling authority. An anti-vivisectionist break-in at a virus research institute starts an investigation, which nobody dared imagine would have such scope. The combined efforts of the British and American military and civil security bodies are stretched in this faction to their limits, as they fight on all fronts, at home and abroad. The political infighting is about as realistic as it gets. The issue of genetically manipulated influenza viruses and vaccination programs combine with the threat to copy an industrial accident from the 1940's, to detonate 30 tons of highly inflammable ether, but no one knows where or when. When DCI Hanks discovers that the hostage taken by the anti-vivisectionists is not who he is assumed to be, the plot thickens. A ring of prostitutes provides not only insight, but also one of the keys to unlocking the case. The involvement on GCHQ's most sophisticated eavesdropping technology and the CIA's face recognition software, help DCI Hanks and his team immensely. A race not only to stop the unthinkable, but also to entrap the ringleaders. A book which will cause controversy and raise many questions about the democracy we all think we live in. We are about as free as a butterfly in a jar.
