En este libro he querido rendir un homenaje al c�mico hispano Cantinflas, el m�s injustamente maltratado por los cr�ticos, y demostrar que su capacidad de improvisaci�n para hacernos re�r era ilimitada. A pesar de que sus pel�culas ten�an un p�simo gui�n y una deficiente realizaci�n, su sola presencia bastaba para llenar la pantalla. Su �nico problema era que su jerga c�mica era tan r�pida, tan incongruente, que nos perd�amos la mayor�a de sus chistes. En este libro, sin embargo, sus mejores di�logos est�n desmenuzados y son una muestra palpable de que fue uno de los grandes genios del cine c�mico.Cantinflas marc� un estilo tremendamente personal y tan ampliamente imitado por otros c�micos que ha conseguido pasar a la historia del cine con honor y sus habilidades humor�sticas resistir perfectamente el paso de los a�os. Su sola presencia en la pantalla bastaba para llenarla y para que la pel�cula cobrase inter�s, a pesar de que ni la direcci�n, ni los di�logos, estaban cuidados con esmero. Todo se confiaba a su buen hacer, a sus mon�logos totalmente improvisados de los que siempre sal�a airoso y provocando la carcajada m�s espont�nea. Era un extraordinario actor que daba la impresi�n de no actuar, de estar rodeado de amigos a los cuales quer�a hacer re�r sin molestar a nadie.Durante su larga carrera cinematogr�fica tuvo que soportar a ciertos cr�ticos que siempre se empe�aban en decir que ya estaba acabado, que su personaje se hab�a adulterado y que se hab�a aburguesado. Pero lo cierto es que independientemente del director, del argumento y de los escenarios elegidos, as� como de los otros compa�eros de reparto, las pel�culas ten�an un gran �xito comercial solamente por �l, por Cantinflas, y eso es algo que ning�n otro actor del mundo ha podido lograr.Despreciado en su d�a por los intelectuales y poco reconocido todav�a por los cr�ticos como uno de los mejores c�micos de la historia de cine, Cantinflas marc� una �poca y hasta su �ltimo filme cosech� grandes �xitos, algo que no le ocurri� ni siquiera a Charles Chaplin, el cual conoci� el fracaso en vida en varias ocasiones, incluida su �ltima pel�cula. Los que le conocieron personalmente dicen que era sencillo sin propon�rselo. Con una actitud social, tanto en el comportamiento como en su indumentaria, alejada de cualquier artificio, era no obstante muy firme en cuanto a mantenerse en sus convicciones human�sticas.Aunque sumamente amable no era persona que se diera con rapidez a la gente, ya que se le consideraba serio, reservado y, por naturaleza, de pocas palabras, rayando en ocasiones en la desconfianza. Generoso en grado sumo, pero plenamente consciente de lo que entregaba y a qui�n lo entregaba, hab�a conocido la pobreza en su ni�ez y en ocasiones sinti� muy de cerca el hambre. Por eso, cuando estuvo en la cima del �xito nunca dej� de ser humilde, quiz�s porque ello le engrandec�a a�n m�s.El triunfo no le envileci�, ni la gloria le cambi� su esp�ritu, demostr�ndose con ello que era un artista superior a la mayor�a y un ser humano inigualable. Cuando le preguntaban si se consideraba un hombre feliz, siempre respond�a que s�, a pesar de sus defectos y a pesar de que pueda tener alguna pena. Dec�a que se sent�a dichoso de realizar su vida y su destino plenamente, en la medida de sus fuerzas.El p�blico se sinti� inmediatamente identificado con su filosof�a, con su esfuerzo por aprender siempre, con su af�n por mejorar d�a tras d�a.Y aunque era de naturaleza optimista le hac�an fuerte mella los fracasos, las zancadillas y los rencores de las personas, lo mismo que le dol�an los malos gobernantes o aquellas personas que se enriquec�an a base de enga�ar o robar a los m�s d�biles o ignorantes.
