About the Book

This is the second book of "Bil-Araby El-Faseeh" series. It is an integrated and flexible multi-level course. "Bil-Araby El-Faseeh" is targeting middle and high schools' students as well as adults who are interested in learning Arabic as a foreign language. "Bil-Araby El-Faseeh" adopts Content Based Learning strategy that follows the "Modified Method" for teaching Arabic Grammar. Grammar and Language functions are both presented through the same content. "Bil-Araby El-Faseeh" helps build students' reading, speaking, listening and writing abilities progressively. The book covers four language levels. They are Early- Intermediate, Mid- Intermediate, High- Intermediate and Early advanced levels. "Bil-Araby El-Faseeh" uses meaningful contexts to present High-Intermediate language to enable students use Arabic confidently. "Bil-Araby El-Faseeh" is aiming at helping students read and write short paragraphs in proper Arabic grammar and communicate orally in a number of daily life situations . These include describing one's daily routine, future plans, giving advices and commands, explaining past experiences and story telling and etc. These skills are emphasized in a way that builds and enforces student's knowledge of sentence structure through real life situations. "Bil-Araby El-Faseeh" provides practice in all four strands with an emphasis on reading and writing. Before each unit, there are a list of target skills to help the teacher to focus on them for planning, teaching and assessment processes. The book proceeds in a gradual step-by-step method with frequent recycling of vocabulary and grammar, and clarification strategies of certain structures. My two textbooks stand as important preparational and transitional stages to other great books that focused on Arabic culture and literature. My two textbooks can be viewed as a foundation resource which takes the learner in a gradual way from forming the word to analysing the word then to build correct noun and verbal sentences without ignoring communication skills. My learner's productivity is measured on written and verbal scale as well. There are many conversations and dialogues in the units of the book and even the nature of the exercises tests the abilities of the learners to communicate verbally as well as in writing.

About the Author :
I am Mahmoud Mansour, an Egyptian Arabic teacher for foreigners. I earned my BA in Arts and Education, Benha University, Egypt in 2004. My seven-year teaching experience helped me to progress to my current position teaching Arabic in the USA. As a teacher, I always believe in an important view in education process. Students should be creative and productive not only consumers to the material. The teacher is merely a facilitator to the course and his students should be creative enough to apply what they have learned in their surroundings and lives. This principal can easily meet with student-centered teaching approach. In 2008 I won a Fulbright scholarship to teach Arabic as a foreign language. I taught this language in School of American and International Studies, Ramapo college of New Jersey in the United States of America. That scholarship required me to study five courses during this academic year. This included Developmental Writing, Technology in the classroom, Effective speaking, English Grammar and Teaching (Principles and Practices), so I earned sixteen credits for these courses. Working now as an Arabic teacher at The American Youth Academy in Tampa, Florida preceded by two years of teaching Arabic at the International Language Institute in Cairo that is sponsored by The International House Organization in London and also preceded by one year of teaching Arabic for non-native in the US made me aware of the urgent need for Arabic in the whole world in general and in the U.S. in particular. In 2014 I started my MA in Teaching Arabic as a foreign language program from Middlebury College, VT. This important step in my education strengthened me pedagogically and added a lot to my vision in teaching Arabic for foreigners. Therefore that effect is reflected in my second edition of my textbook. It's a different feeling when teaching your own language for foreigners. Teaching foreigners about Arab culture will give me the chance to deal with different cultures and thoughts which is the main core of learning foreign languages, to build cross cultural bridges with collaborated feelings and thoughts. I think our world today needs any effort to spread peace among nations and education can be a powerful resource for that purpose if it is invested in teaching cultures of other nations to close the gaps and block the roads against wars.
