About the Book

The Catholic Church is at a major crossroads in its history. It is in trouble and it will take exceptional leadership and moral integrity on the part of Pope Francis to repair it. The last two Popes, while popular with the public, made matters worse. This book identifies twelve areas where they failed to act and sets out the actions needed to put them right. They colluded with the criminal activities of the Vatican bank (chapter 1), continued the cover-up of the sexual crimes of priests (chapter 2), continued their widely ignored policy of forbidding contraception (chapter 3), failed to address the ludicrous position of forbidding homosexuality when the priesthood itself is largely homosexual (chapter 4), evaded the issue of anti-Semitism (chapter 5), continued the endemic failure to admit mistakes (chapter 6), reconfirmed the Church's implicit policy of denigrating women (Chapter 7), equivocated on the embarrassing Church policy of claiming exclusive access to heaven (Chapter 8), ignored the slavery in the Irish Magdalene homes (chapter 9), continued the dubious practice of making politically inspired saints (chapter 10), failed to repudiate the Inquisition (Chapter 11), and continued to confirm the illogical concept of apostolic succession (Chapter 12). The challenge for Pope Francis is thus an enormous one, but he has little choice but to begin the remedies indicated here.
