About the Author :
Alexandra Asseily, born in Malta in 1937, is a psychotherapist and peace advocate whose experiences with conflict have driven her dedication to reconciliation and healing. Raised in Malta, Singapore, and the UK, she witnessed the Blitz during World War II and later experienced Lebanon's civil war, which led her to train as a psychotherapist in various disciplines. In 1998, she initiated the Garden of Forgiveness in Beirut to foster reconciliation among Lebanon's communities. She also lead workshops on healing historical trauma, helping individuals from diverse backgrounds address the roots of violence. Co-founder of initiatives like the Centre for Lebanese Studies and the Ara Pacis Initiative for Peace, Alexandra is a long-time board member of the Guerrand Hermès Foundation for Peace and has been involved in numerous academic and peacebuilding organisations. She divides her time between the UK and Lebanon, where she co-founded the Silk Museum.
