About the Book

The second edition of Our Voices is a ground-breaking collection of writings from Aboriginal social work educators who have collaborated to develop a toolkit of appropriate behaviours, interactions, networks, and intervention. The text explores a range of current and emerging social work practice issues such as cultural supervision, working with communities, understanding trauma, collaboration and relationship building, and the ubiquity of whiteness in Australian social work. It covers these issues with new and innovative approaches and provides valuable insights into how social work practice can be developed, taught and practiced in ways that more effectively engage Indigenous communities.

Review :
This is a very important book which will have a major influence on social work education and practice. It is a landmark publication in that it is the first book of this type in Australian social work. The authors and editors are to be congratulated on their achievement. Informative, engaging and most of all challenging, Our Voices provides essential knowledge for Australian social workers and social work students. This new edition expands and updates these important arguments, confirming its place as required reading for social work practitioners and students. This is a powerful book that challenges social workers to think critically, ask the difficult questions, debate the contentious issues, and walk the talk of social justice and equality by drawing from ancient knowledge. This book should be required reading for all social workers in Australia and, indeed, around the globe. – Raven Sinclair, Professor of Social Work, University of Regina (Saskatoon), Canada
