SLAYDEN, Democrat, of San Antonio, was born June 1, 1853, in Graves County, Ky.; was educated at the country schools of his native State and at Washington and Lee University, "Virginia; was a cotton merchant; was a member of the Twenty-third legislature of Texas in 1892; declined reelection, and was elected to the Fifty-fifth Congress, and reelected to the Fifty-sixth Congress, receiving 16,363 votes, to 10,472 for George H. Noonan, Republican, 2,110 for A. B. Surber, Populist, and 212 for Frank Leitner, Socialist Labor. THIRTEENTH DISTRICT. (Population, 190,080.)
