Ils sont constitues principalement par des desordres de l'appareil circulatoire: ce sont des palpitations, des irregularites dans les battements du c ur et dans le pouls, l' deme des extremites inferieures, l'ascite et l'anasarque. Ces symptomes sont quelquefois places sous la dependance immediate des lesions des orifices ou des valvules du c ur (lesions qui sont alors des complications de l'asthme), mais ils peuvent fort bien exister sans cette cause et n'avoir d'autre raison de leur existence que l'asthme lui-meme et les lesions du poumon qui l'accompagnent. Quoi qu'il en soit, ces nouveaux phenomenes viennent encore augmenter la gene de la respiration et aggraver l'etat des malades. A cette periode, s'il survient une des complications que nous avons notees, elle occasionne ordinairement la mort. On trouve alors, a l'autopsie, une bronchite et un deme considerable des poumons, ou bien une pneumonie et quelquefois toutes ces lesions reunies. En outre, les organes respiratoires sont emphysemateux, soit en totalite, soit en partie. Tels sont les symptomes qui caracterisent la forme de l'asthme que nous nommons habituelle d'emblee. Cette forme de la maladie qui nous occupe est bien plutot un fait admis, pour ainsi dire, par le sentiment des praticiens qu'une variete morbide decrite par les auteurs.
