Estratto: Therese Francoise Marie Martin (Alencon, 2 gennaio 1873 - Lisieux, 30 settembre 1897) fu una religiosa e mistica francese, meglio nota come santa Teresa del Bambin Gesu, nome con il quale e venerata dalla Chiesa cattolica. Monaca carmelitana presso il monastero di Lisieux, e talora chiamata anche santa Teresina, per distinguerla da Teresa d'Avila. Santa Teresa del Bambin Gesu del Santo Volto e il nome da lei assunto al momento della professione dei voti. La sua festa liturgica ricorre il 1 ottobre. Patrona dei missionari dal 1927, dal 1944, assieme a Giovanna d'Arco, e considerata anche patrona di Francia. Il 19 ottobre 1997 fu dichiarata Dottore della Chiesa, la terza donna a ricevere tale titolo dopo Caterina da Siena e appunto Teresa d'Avila. Therese Martin, ultimogenita di Louis Martin e Marie-Azelie Guerin (Zelie), nacque il 2 gennaio 1873 in rue Saint-Blaise 42, ad Alencon. In gioventu entrambi i suoi genitori avevano desiderato abbracciare la vita consacrata, desiderio che nessuno dei due pote realizzare. La dimensione religiosa fu molto presente nella loro vita matrimoniale. I coniugi Martin sono venerati come beati dalla Chiesa cattolica.
