Uittreksel: Jan van Krimpen (Gouda, 12 januari 1892 - Haarlem, 20 oktober 1958) was een Nederlandse ontwerper van drukletters, typograaf, boekverzorger en ook ontwerper van boekbanden. Van Krimpen correspondeerde met vele bekende typografen uit die tijd, waar onder Stanley Morison die bij the Monotype corporation ltd in Salfords, Engeland werkzaam was. In 1956 kreeg Van Krimpen de Society of Industrial Artist Gold Medal als hommage voor zijn werk. Na zijn dood liet van Krimpen zijn archief met zijn correspondentie en manuscripten na aan de bibliotheek van de Universiteit van Amsterdam, afdeling bijzondere collecties. Deze instelling kreeg ook mogelijkheid een eerste keus te doen uit van Krimpens bibliotheek. Hier berust trouwens ook het archief van diens goede vriend en collega Sem Hartz. Van Krimpen werd geboren als het vierde kind van Nicolaas van Krimpen (1854-1908), een rijke graanhandelaar en Maria Braat (1856-1901). Zijn oudste broer Hendrik (1889-1961) werd later advocaat. In 1890 werd een tweeling geboren: de dochter Neeltje werd later wiskundelerares, de zoon Jan overleed een jaar later.
