Uittreksel: Kapitein Charles Cunningham Boycott (12 maart 1832 - 19 juni 1897) was een Brits rentmeester in Ierland wiens totale sociale isolatie door de plaatselijke bevolking in 1880 het Engels verrijkte met het werkwoord "to boycott." De sociale isolatie was een onderdeel van de campagne voor meer rechten voor huurders van agrarische gronden.
