Auszug: Max Liebermann (* 20. Juli 1847 in Berlin; 8. Februar 1935 ebenda) war ein deutscher Maler und Grafiker. Er gehort zu den bedeutendsten Vertretern des deutschen Impressionismus. Nach einer Ausbildung in Weimar und Aufenthalten in Paris und den Niederlanden schuf er zunachst naturalistische Werke mit sozialer Thematik. Durch die Beschaftigung mit den franzosischen Impressionisten fand er seit 1880 zu einer lichten Farbigkeit und einem schwungvollen Farbauftrag, der sein Hauptwerk pragt. Sein Schaffen steht symbolisch fur den Ubergang von der Kunst des 19. Jahrhunderts hin zur Klassischen Moderne zur Zeit des Wilhelminismus und der Weimarer Republik. Diesen Wandel forderte er als Prasident der Berliner Sezession. Von 1920 bis 1933 leitete er die Preussische Akademie der Kunste, bevor er infolge der nationalsozialistischen Einflussnahme auf die Kunstpolitik zurucktrat. Seine letzten beiden Lebensjahre verbrachte er zuruckgezogen in seiner Heimatstadt Berlin. Max Liebermann im Alter von 16 JahrenMax Liebermann wurde am 20. Juli 1847 als Sohn des wohlhabenden judischen Industriellen Louis Liebermann und dessen Frau Philippine (geborene Haller) in Berlin geboren. Sein Grossvater war Josef Liebermann, ein bedeutender Textilunternehmer, der das Liebermann'sche Vermogen begrundet hatte. Nur drei Tage nach Max' Geburt trat die Verordnung die Verhaltnisse der Juden betreffend" in Kraft, die den judischen Bevolkerungsteilen grossere Rechte einraumte. Er hatte funf Geschwister, darunter den alteren Bruder Georg Liebermann. 1851 zogen die Liebermanns in die Behrenstras
