Excerpt: ... others in his employ, to understand that there must be no discrimination between union and non-union workmen in the matter of advancements; that, notwithstanding this declaration of the employer's views and wishes, the foreman afterwards increased the annoyances to union compositors. A few members of the union remained at work, and the foreman employed an additional force of non-union compositors. Within a few weeks after the strike commenced Typographical Union No. 274 addressed a communication to the organized workingmen of New York and vicinity, and a number of labor organizations declared a boycott against this newspaper. The condition of affairs remained practically unchanged until October, 1892, when all differences were adjusted and the strike was declared off. MUSIC ENGRAVERS. New York. On or about November 7, 1891, a music publisher, whose place of business is at 35 Union square, reduced the wages of his engravers, who refused to submit to the reduction and went on strike. The strike lasted seventeen days, and resulted in the. restoration of the union rate of wages. PRESSMEN AND FEEDERS. New York. On December 2, 1891, a local assembly of Knights of Labor, composed of pressmen and feeders, ordered a strike in a 'ithographing establishment at Twenty-second street and Avenue A, in order to secure an advance of wages from eight and ten dollars per week to the union rate of twelve dollars per week. On the fourth of December their demands were granted and the strike was declared off. On the eleventh of December the same assembly ordered a strike in a publishing house at 17 and 19 Vandewater street.
