Melvill, J. Edmondson. Preach-' er's Lantern, i, 509; ii, 419. Stems and Twigs, ii, 172. Root Thoughts. Therefore, to cultivate love for God the invisible, (he himself being the perfection of unselfish love, ) we are required to love man with divine love; that is, a love born of God, and expressing itself in impulses and actions of sympathy the outgrowth of a true conviction of man's spiritual worth and spiritual need. He who loves God truly must love man; ha who truly loves and helps man out of unselfish sympathy and deep spiritual desire has in this a proof that he loves God also, and that he is moreover doing the work of the Lord Jesus in the spirit of the Lord Jesus, to the pleasi..
