About the Book

From author Brent Seheult comes a first-hand account of abuse during his turbulent childhood as a young queer. Brent was a typical boy who just wanted to be loved and accepted, but despite his every attempt to gain their approval, his parents made him constantly aware of their dislike of him. At school, Brent tried hard to hide his bruised and battered body from watchful eyes, but he also carried with him the guilt and shame of being molested by a close female relative. After his parents' divorce, his mother commonly referred to him as "queer boy" while her boyfriends attempted use him for their own sexual pleasure. And when he refused, Brent would suffer their abuse even further. While suffering in and out of foster care, Brent was caught between a system that couldn't protect him very well and two parents who didn't seem to care. When Brent does eventually find love, his parents cannot accept that he's attracted to other boys. Brent fought for acceptance his entire life, but did he ever receive it?

Review :
Encouraging book for everyone fighting for their LGBT rights January 28, 2020 Even nowadays young boys are under attack for who they love and for who they are. In too many countries, being gay means living with daily discrimination. The range of unequal treatment faced is extensive and damaging. It can also be life-threatening. This book reveals Brent's memoirs - being harassed, beaten up and caught between a system that can't protect him and two parents that don't seem to care - simply because of who he is. Brent's Story is Moving January 27, 2020 Brent wrote openly and honestly about what life was like in youth. His story pulls you in and it is hard to believe that somebody could live through the events of his life. Brent is an extreme example of enduring life's trauma and still finding that love exists despite the horrors of this world. I would recommend this book to anybody that is struggling in life and wants to see an example of what it is to persevere. The material is difficult, but it is a rewarding read. There are some books you read that you don't want to believe January 9, 2020 But the things that happen in this book did go on and continue today. The difference is the child is removed from the home and kept out of the abusive environment permanently. The Author Cathy Glass whom I have read several of her books describes her foster children's lives. In this case the author of Silent Cries, Brent Seheult, talks about the events that happened in his life. He has the unique ability to make the reader feel as if he/she is sitting at their kitchen table having a cup of coffee while listening to Mr. Seheult speak about his life. His life was not easy and he still struggles. In fact I have no clue how he was able to write this book. His descriptions of the events in his life, and the struggles in different areas of his life should not be judged, but embraced. I asked myself the questions how could a system designed to protect children, and those who created him turn his back on him? How would those who abused him and expose him to a certain lifestyle not expect that he may find love with those who never harmed him? This book is a must read for anyone who admires those who overcome obstacles, mental health professionals, anyone who works with children, those who love children, those who are dealing with abuse present and past, people in general.
