About the Author :
Katie Ford MSc ACS has worked as a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist for over 20 years. Puffy Puffs Up is her first picture book. Katie loves helping children to communicate and building their confidence and resilience so that they believe in themselves, just like Puffy! Katie is fascinated by animals and their amazing abilities. In nature, pufferfish really do puff up, seahorses camouflage, dolphins dive right out of the water and manta rays communicate with their horns in an under-the-sea equivalent of sign language! Just like the characters in Puffy Puffs Up, we are all different and Katie is passionate about making sure that all children feel valued and understood. Katie loves reading and writing stories and poetry, singing and playing the guitar and exploring the Kent countryside with her family. Emma Carpenter is an illustrator living in Wales - the land of dragons and beautiful beaches! She's inspired by all things magical and whimsical and loves getting lost in a good book. Emma's previous picture books include Mother Seagull and The Ocean King written by John Shepheard and Positive Pea written by Ashley K Thompson. As a huge animal lover, she loves any chance she gets to draw animals. Emma's hobbies include reading, running, playing board games and making friends with dogs and cats.

Review :
Such an appealing book! For children and their adults it will give great pleasure as well as really helpful ideas. The illustrations are perfect and the way the book is set out and written with such sweet rhyming schemes is beautiful. A topic of sensitivity in children and over reaction is explored with great delicacy through Puffy's fishy world. There is a lot of information in there too with all sorts of beautifully illustrated fish along with their names It was also lovely to read one of the reviews above written by a teacher who described how her class of little ones reacted with understanding, joy and positivity. --- This book is an absolute delight. It deals with the complexity of anxiety in such a simple and supporting way that any child will understand and any adult will enjoy reading aloud. Great rhyming makes the story bowl along, and the pictures and text are just brilliantly matched. This book should be on the shelf of every preschool setting and in every family's book box --- Beautiful words and illustrations to help children to learn about kindness, calmness and confidence --- A well written and wonderfully illustrated story about a pufferfish who has some motionless moments when overwhelming emotions take over. I have many children in my life who feel exactly that way, and this books acknowledges those emotions. Thank you for writing it and acknowledging them. --- A beautifully written and illustrated book. Although the target audience is for 4 - 8 years old, as an adult there are poignant moments we can learn from the main character too. A delightful read, looking forward to reading more of Katie's creations in the future. --- Katie is a new author who obviously has the talent and experience to deliver a delightful children's story book with a positive, therapeutic message. The rhyming text is a joy to read and the beautiful illustrations will delight and enthral all ages. Looking forward to getting the activity book when it comes out and can't wait to see what she does next.
