About the Book

Bu ennill gwobr "Y Cymro Cryfa" yn boendod parhaus i Robin McBryde - cafodd ei herio a'i atgoffa o'r peth ar hyd ei yrfa. Ond atebodd bob her a goroesodd nifer fawr o rwystrau i gyrraedd y brig gan ddangos cryfder cymeriad tu hwnt i'r cyffredin. Fel un o'r ychydig chwaraewyr o Sir Fon i lwyddo ar lefel uchaf rygbi rhyngwladol dangosodd ymroddiad llwyr i'r gem, o'i gyfnod cychwynnol yng nghlybiau Porthaethwy a'r Wyddgrug, a'i lwyddiant gydag Abertawe a Llanelli. Er iddo dreulio cyfnodau ar y fainc o dan Mike Ruddock yn Abertawe a diodde sawl anaf, profodd ei amheuwr yn anghywir gan ddod yn un o fawrion y gem yng Nghymru. Fel capten Llanelli am ddau dymor enillodd filoedd o edmygwyr, a dangosodd ei ddawn a'i gryfder i'r eithaf gyda'r tin cenedlaethol a'r Llewod. Yn ei hunangofiant mae'n agor y llen ar uchelfannau ac iselfannau ei yrfa, yn cynnwys gorfoledd y Gamp Lawn, rhwystredigaeth gyda'r Llewod, argyfwng Ruddock, a'i orfoledd wrth gael ei benodi'n un o hyfforddwyr allweddol carfan Cymru.

Review :
Ddechrau’r nawdegau bu S4C yn gyfrifol am gyfres hynod boblogaidd ‘Y Cymro Cryfaf’, a gan fod Robin McBryde wedi cipio’r tlws ar un achlysur, mae’r enw a ddewiswyd ar y dudalen flaen yn berffaith ar gyfer cyfrol hynod ddiddorol sydd newydd ymddangos ar gyfer y Nadolig. A bod yn onest, mae’n ddegawd yr hunangofiannau, ac mae Robin fel sawl un arall wedi gweld ei gyfle i rannu’i stori â’r genedl. Mae chwaraewyr rygbi rhyngwladol gogleddol yn fodau mor brin â’r wiwer goch. Treuliodd dau o fawrion y gêm, Bleddyn Williams a Wilfred Wooller, gyfnodau yn Ysgol Breswyl Rydal ond hwntws oedden nhw. Mae eraill wedi cynrychioli’r crysau cochion o bryd i’w gilydd gan gynnwys Tony Gray, Stuart Roy, Ian Buckett, y brodyr Andrew a Steve Moore a’r asgellwr chwimwth Arthur Emyr. Ond dim ond dau a hawliodd lond côl o gapiau a mynd ymlaen i gynrychioli’r Llewod Prydeinig sef y dewin Dewi Bebb a hawliodd ddeuddeg cais ar y llwyfan rhyngwladol, a Robin McBryde (Abertawe, Llanelli, Cymru a’r Llewod). Cyd-awdur y gyfrol yw’r darlledwr profiadol Lynn Davies, yn enedigol o Ynysforgan yng Nghwm Tawe. Aeth ar bererindod i’r gogledd yn y saithdegau ac mae e’n dal yno. Teithio i’r cyfeiriad arall wnaeth Robin er mwyn gwireddu breuddwyd, a rhaid dweud fod y bartneriaeth wedi llwyddo’n eithriadol – Robin yn datgan ei stori yn gwbl ddiflewyn-ar-dafod a Lynn yn cofnodi’r cwbl mewn iaith rymus a chyfoethog. Fe allech daeru, o’r dudalen gynta’ i’r ola’, mai’r bachwr cyhyrog sy’n siarad â’r darllenwr. Dyma i chi ŵr sy’n ymfalchïo yn ei gefndir a’i genedl. Fel arfer y dawnswyr bale sy’n sgrifennu am eu profiadau ar faes y gad, ond bob hyn a hyn, daw ambell geffyl gwedd â chyfrol o’r wasg – blaenwyr o galibr Mervyn Davies, Willie John McBride, John Eales a Garin Jenkins a lwyddodd i gynnwys profiadau doniol a dirdynnol, ac mae Robin yn ei ffordd ddihafal ei hun yn dilyn trywydd yr hoelion wyth uchod. Ces i fel sawl un arall yng Nghymru'r pleser a’r anrhydedd o adnabod Robin yn ystod y ddegawd ddiwethaf a’i ganfod yn ŵr addfwyn, diymhongar a hawddgar, a dyna’r darlun sy’n ymddangos i’r darllenydd sy’n gwybod fawr ddim amdano oni bai am ei wrhydri a’i allu ar y maes chwarae. Mae llawer mwy i’r dyn yma, ac wrth droi’r tudalennau, mae’r penderfyniad, yr agosatrwydd a’r agwedd ddi-droi'n-ôl yn dod i’r amlwg. Mae’r gêm yn hollbwysig iddo ond mae’r teulu a’r gwerthoedd a gyflwynwyd iddo’n blentyn yn bwysicach fyth. Mae’r gyfrol yn werth ei darllen. Robin and the ‘Red Zone’ With the whole nation awaiting the most eagerly anticipated game of the Autumn rugby internationals, Wales v All Blacks, another man who will be on tender hooks is Wales’ national rugby forwards coach Robin McBryde. Robin certainly knows a few things about the opposition after a period working with the All Blacks tour last November! The ex- Scarlets, Wales and Lions hooker launches his new autobiography Y Cymro Cryfa (Wales’ Strongest Man) next week, where he reveals for the first time how he has adopted many of the All Black’s techniques as a part of his coaching of the Welsh rugby team. He also discloses in his autobiography that it was he who unwittingly introduced the ‘red zone’ term to Welsh rugby, following his return from workin with New Zealand, where the ‘red zone’ was used by the coaching staff. Soon enough, the Welsh press seized upon the saying and following the departure of Mike Ruddock, the WRU’s tour of the rugby districts was soon dubbed the ‘Red Zone Roadshow’. With a foreword by rugby legend Ray Gravell, this autobiography follows Robin, who remains one of the few North Walians to break into first class rugby, from his early days at Swansea and Llanelli, to his role in the 2005 Grand Slam-winning team and as part of the prestigious Lions team in 2001. Part of the pack of broken nosed, cauliflower-eared forwards, McBryde, with his intimidating physique, enough to frighten any opposing scrum member, was also once Wales’ strongest man. He is also a hero to thousands and an extremely proud Welshman and an honorary member of the Eisteddfod’s Gorsedd.
