Review :
Dr. Samuel Reeves has written a profound, refreshing and penetrating book about how faith, mingled with a daring outreach agenda and mixed with a caring disposition, can nurture cross-cultural contacts, interactions and relationships in its search for good news. One church in the U.S. and another faith community in Liberia, both bearing very dissimilar histories, contextual challenges and even social, political and cultural vibes, took the initiative to envision the possible while identifying the common good found when limits are transcended, hearts opened and minds tackled by the working of God. Sam Reeves offers here a hope-filled vision of how two very different communities of faith- a Baptist congregation in African and a Christian Reformed church in Michigan- came together to form a relationship of mutual giving and receiving. We see in this moving account a story of building bridges across oceans and cultures and traditions- bridges of mutual respect, of two-way sharing of resources, and of visits on one another's turf.
