Excerpt from Über den Philebos des Platon: Inaugural-Dissertation Verfasst und der Hohen Philosophischen Fakultät der Kgl. Bayer. Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg zur Erlangung der Doktorwürde Ebenso wie Goethe als Faust, Hölderlin als Empedokles, Nietzsche als Zarathustra redet Platon als Sokrates zu der Welt, indem er, um sich von den beschränkenden Fesseln der Gegenwart zu befreien, die Maske einer subiectiv als congenial empfundenen Natur annimmt, in deren wahl verwandtem Wollen er die Erklärung des seinigen fand. Weniger nämlich als der Denker war es der Reformator, mit welchem sich Platon im Innersten verwandt fühlte und dessen Werk er zu vollenden gedachte mit hilfe dessen, was seine Philosophie vor derjenigen des Lehrers voraus hatte. Wohl ahnte nämlich auch Sokrates dunkel die Notwendigkeit einer Erlösung des' Individuums, die nur durch die subiective Vernunft bewerkstelligt werden könnte, weshalb er im Interesse der subiectiven Freiheit die Autorität von Tradition, Sitte und Staat zu untergraben suchte, aber da sein Denken nicht dem Kerker der Erfahrungswelt entrinnen konnte, entrang sich seinem Munde nicht das entscheidende Wort von einem absoluten Princip. Schliesslich ist kein geringerer als Aristoteles Zeuge für die aus Platons reformatorischem Willen und dem Charakter des platonischeu Sokrates erschlossene Identität beider. Bekanntlich hat Aristoteles, wenn er Asusserungen des Sokrates citiert, welche nicht von dem historischen her rühren können, stets denjenigen des Platon im Sinne, nie mals den eines anderen Verfassers "sokratischer Dialoge Eine Anzahl solcher Erwähnungen sind einfache Citate, welche dem platonischen Sokrates nur eine bestimmte An sicht vindicieren, ohne dass sich durch sie entscheiden liesse, ob Aristoteles in demselben eine obiective Schöpfung Platons oder diesen selbst erkennt; so z. B. De gen. Et corr. II, 9 et p.év bcacv'qv c'pfi3nqcacv sivau 'l'ö yivecüau r'qv 1: gw eiöäw oücw, &arcep év (R)atöww. Mga'1mg. Hingegen liegen die Dinge anders, wenn er Pol. II, 1 - 5 eine ausführliche zu sammenhängende Kritik an der Politeia des Platon übt, aber seine Polemik nicht gegen diesen sondern den Sokrates richtet. Nicht unnütz dürfte es sein, einige belehrende Stellen dieser Partie hier beizufügen.
